Miele S8380 Cat & Dog Canister Vacuum

Purchased this vacuum about four weeks ago. I have a Kirby as well. With two dogs and three cats, I vacuum daily. I have everything from wall to wall, wool area rugs, synthetic area rugs, hardwood floors and upholstery to keep up with. Love the Kirby, but it can be a bit unwieldy especially as an every day appliance. Decided to give this vacuum a try. It has become my primary vacuum very quickly. The powered floor and upholstery brushes make picking everything up very simple. It is easy to tote around up and down stairs, and the on board tools are easily accessible. It cleans everything very well, easily moving between the different surfaces. The only complaint I have is that the bags are somewhat small, and I find myself replacing the bag at a frequency of at least one bag per week.

My last Miele vacuum lasted about 10 years… It’s actually still working but I moved to California and had to get another one. The only issue I ever had with that one was at about 8 years I had to have the plug replaced. Without even considering another brand I decided on this model. I love it. It is easy to get around and gets all the dust and dirt and cat hair up and off the floor (we have cement floors with cracks where dust likes to accumulate) and carpet.

It’s the best vacuum. I’m taking off one star for these reasons:
1. There is no on/off button on the top of the wand like my other model
2. The cord is so tight that sometimes it unplugs itself from the wall.

Other than that it is extremely easy to maneuver, easy to clean with, and the bags last a long time considering I use it every day (albeit for small jobs) and then once or twice a week for the whole house.

Wouldn’t bother with another brand at this point. You might save in the beginning but it won’t last as long. It’s also very attractive and being that we don’t have much space it doesn’t bother me that it is out in view at times.

My wife and I have had the Meile Cat & Dog canister vac for about six months now and we’re very happy with it.

Coming from a Hoover upright vac, the thing that wowed us about the Miele straight away is how it manages to be both incredibly powerful and incredibly quiet. Our Hoover would freak out our cats as soon as we fired it up, but our furballs barely take notice of the Miele. Another big plus to the Meile is its lightweight: We’ll never go back to the world of bulky, heavy uprights!

In terms of the accessories, the mini turbo brush is incredibly useful. We have multiple cats that never seem to stop shedding, and the turbo brush does a fantastic job pulling their fur off the sofa and drapes. I’d say it’s a must-have accessory if you’re a pet owner. Also, I know it’s not an accessory, but—silly as this may sound—I love the auto-retracting power cable! It actually works every time and it’s just one of those small touches that makes me happy we splurged on such a well designed product.

The Miele is quite expensive and whether it’s worth the outlay is really an individual call, but we’re super happy with ours and recommend it without equivocation to friends and family.
