I am a HUGE fan of the Bissell Velocity! It is an upright vacuum with the easiest to remove bagless canister I have ever seen. There are a number of excellent attachments to help you reach the hard to reach places. The vacuum has great suction, but you can also adjust the vacuum based on carpet height or the need to use on hardwood floors. The wheels do not make huge indentations as you vacuum either. For the stairs, I use the little attachment with spinning wheels that does awesome. It costs about $ 120 or so but is so worth the money! I have never enjoyed vacuuming until I bought this machine. And…I’m a guy:)

Dyson now makes a canister vacuum. It’s the only one I have seen that doesn’t use a bag.
Bought a Panasonic four years ago on recommendation of an appliance repair man and haven’t seen him since.
I own a Kenmore Progressive and have never had anything like it. It will suck the dust off of the ceiling in the room below the carpet you are vacuuming. Never had anything that worked so well for dusting, either. Very handy on stairs, though you gotta lug the little bugger up a step or two with you on a longer set of stairs…
Cost me like $ 300.00 two or three years ago new. Best investment I ever made!
