I have carpet right know but my DH is going to change the floor to hardwood floor. We will still have carpet in the bedrooms and probably laminate wood floor in the living room and dinning room. We will also have area rugs. I want to get a vacuum that can handle all these types plus i want a good vacuum that can suck up the dirt from the carpet and the hard wood floors.
I’ve been at this business for over 40 years, and I can tell you unequivically, there is no ONE vacuum that will do a really good job on both carpet and bare floors. If you plan on being in this home for a number of years and are wanting to invest in a carpet cleaning system, you’d do well to get a good upright for the carpets and an inexpensive straight suction machine for the bare floors. No upright is going to do a really good job on a bare floor. It makes no difference if you can shut off the brushroll, it actually helps to pick up dirt and push it toward the vacuum opening. If it’s just setting there, it’s nothing more than an impedance to the movement of air and DIRT around it. However, on the carpet, it does a masterful job. The straight suction unit can be small, as long as it has a fairly strong suction motor and floor attachments, as well as a good dusting and upholstery brush.
I have an Oreck and it works great for all. I use to have a DH myself.
Bissell Heavy Duty. It has more suction than a Dyson, at half the price too. Works great and has a button to shut off the carpet spinner when moving to hardwoods so it wont scratch it.
an upright.
I also have a Bissell, best vac out there for your money, like the brush shut off fetcher and awesome power
