I have a Hoover steam vac widepath LS and I turn it on and smells like rubber burin but I don’t know how to tear it apart to see what is really wrong with it.Thank you in advance. I removed some of the screws on the top but I can remove the lid. would be very helpful. Thanks in advance
I’ll work on getting a video of tearing it apart. by monday hopefully.
well it just happens that i found a steam vac wide path the other week. i haven’t had a chance to mess with it yet, but i’ll let you know what i come up with. I don’t think they have any belts or anything in them though.
Great video! Would the same application of putting oil in the pump motor apply to a Hoover Steam Vac V2? The brushes are not spinning. I think we got close but didn’t take the motor off. Thank for the video.
Thanks for posting. Saved me from buying another one.
@kev7van glad to be of assistance 🙂
Take it to the dump
Thank u so much for this how to video! Everything you showed in your video was the EXACT problem I was having with my Hoover Steamvac LS, again thank u!! =)

Thanks for producing this video !, it was very helpful, my steam vac is working like new again!
@flywelder glad to help!
I bought a used cleaner not realizing the brushes didn’t work so I did a search on You Tube for a possible answer and to my surprise I found one. Thanks for showing how to take it apart (another video) and how to fix the brushes in this video, it works now! Don’t know if you know how to fix this problem. The hose attachment for doing stars etc the tip white piece inside that I guess disperses the cleaner into a spray has come off, how do you reattach it if there is a way? Thank you for the videos!
@ljohn1999 Glad the video helped! I don’t have the attachment hose for mine, so I’m not sure how the nozzle would attach. I’m thinking that it may have been glued in if there’s no other apparent way of keeping it in there. A drop of super glue should hold it if that’s the case
Big thanks for the tips. I’ve had one sitting in the basement for at least 5 years. Tried it tonight and no go. Looked at your video, and got it running in 30 minutes. The metal screen was completely clogged, and the brushes didn’t turn at all. I took it all apart, cleaned it good, sprayed some silicone lube everywhere, and it’s working great.
I realize the silicone lube isn’t a long-term lube answer– what kind of oil did you use? Or did you use grease?
Thanks.
@crazymandan59 Glad to hear it helped. Any kind of oil should be good, though I’ve been told not to use the standard “red” 3-in-1 oil as it can degrade the bronze bushings. Normally I just use plain old non-detergent 30 weight motor oil in a dropper bottle. A quart of it costs about 2 bucks at wal-mart, and a drop or two is enough for most bushings.
@general0ne Thanks for the answer! It’s still running great, but now I’ve found all those hose attachments so I’m going after that pump too (which wasn’t turning when I had it apart). The reason I asked about grease was because there was a small amount of orange/rust colored grease around the two gears when I opened it up, but didn’t know if there were any specs on what kind to use. I’ll try the 10W-30 this time. Thanks a million!
(Pulled buckets of mud out of the old carpet too, BTW. YUK!)
@crazymandan59 I don’t remember if mine had any grease in it or not when I took it apart. I thought you had meant for the bushings. You would want to use a plastic-safe grease for the gears that you could probably find at your local hobby shop, or if you use synthetic white lithium grease on the plastics you should be okay.
The oil I use isn’t 10W-30 – that has a detergent in it. Get the SAE-30 oil that is non-detergent (look on the bottle – it will say not recommended for gasoline engines)
@general0ne I appreciate the quick response on those clarifications, because this is project number one on my list for this weekend. Keep up the good work my friend.
@crazymandan59 Not a problem. Good luck getting it working, and if you have any other questions I’ll do my best to answer them.
One thing about the pump – From what I remember, the pump won’t turn unless the attachment hose is connected, so that may or may not be your problem.
thanks
Just wondering. mine is making a very high whining noise. It still works but i am afraid to use it. Will doing this fix it?
@general0ne – I have a Steamvac Silver & am having a problem with the hose dispensing any solution.
I’ve taken the ENTIRE thing apart, checking everything. Found this video afterwards, but it’s a very good overview of all the parts.
As for the solution dispenser, it seems it’s all hooked up to the pump. A good view can be seen at 3:03 & 5:28, when you have the pump in two pieces. I think the problem is the “nozzle” (which you still have in the pump housing), I took it apart and can’t pass air
… through it. At first I thought this piece was meant to just keep a vacuum on the line (sorry, i don’t know that much about vacuum pumps) but looking at how the user is to connect it, seems like fluid should be moving through it. I checked all hoses, they seem to allow air/water through just fine.
Any pointers? Local shops want $100 to look/fix it, but at $130 I could just buy a new one without any remorse.
