Simplicity Vacuums (and their sister company Riccar), a division of Tacony Corporation, are one of the only brands of upright vacuums Made in the USA. Local CBS news station KMOV recently featured the Simplicity manufacturing facility in St. James, Missouri in their “Good News 4 a Change” segment. The story focuses on the importance of products being made in the USA and the bold move of this company to bring even more production back to the US with their canister vacuums in a time when many companies are importing jobs to save money.
Making products in America gives companies a competitive edge, at least from a marketing standpoint. China-made products are often associated with cheapness, while products made in America, Japan, or Germany are usually associated with high quality. If companies deliver the actual quality to back up the Made in USA label, I think they’ll have a sound marketing strategy. America needs to stay in the high-quality niche (like Germany), and let China sell the cheap, mainstream products.
I have been comparing vacuums in the last week or so, deciding which to buy. While visiting a local vacuum sales store, and looking at the product, I was impressed, but in my mind, I was still going to buy another well-known brand. Then the salesman said, they’re made in America. Now, I’m definitely going to buy the Simplicity.
Can you also make desk, table, stand fans in america?
It’s great to see a company building quality vacuums IN America, now if only Hoover And Eureka would come back home.
