Trash Picked Dirt Devil Vibe Bagless Vacuum Cleaner

Just picked this up the other day from my neighbors trash. Ran, but had no suction. I removed the hose assembly first. Assembly was clogged, but that was not the problem. The HEPA filter which is in the dirt cup was damp, and smelled laundry like. Somebody probably vacuumed up laundry water. I ran the vacuum without the HEPA, and the suction returned. If i sound kinda drowsy i have been recovering from a cold lately.

  1. Thanks for the tip, but i think the HEPA filter was too far gone anyway. It had lots of lint, and dirt caught in the elements along with it being wet/sticky. I since sold the vacuum on Craigslist with a brand new HEPA for $35.00.

  2. BUt thats the point. Ive washed similar filters which were worse off, after a couple of hours in hot water with either washing liquid or washing powder you’ll find a difference. Never use a vacuum without its filter in place though, even if you have removed it. I understand of course the excitement of finding a vacuum in the trash but when its bagless its either clogged or something more dangerous such as dirt seeping into the motors – a fact that old Dysons suffer from.

  3. You should have kept it dude, those models are NOT bad, most likely you are right about the people who owned it before using it as a wet-vac (mistakenly). For those who use them right, like yourself they last for years- I have had mine since 2002!!

  4. Nice! Helpful tips! My moms vacuum cleaner has no suction, I might tell her this and convince her not to throw it away, she goes through vacuums fairly quickly since we’ve got dogs and they are one of the hairier breeds.

  5. Found the same deal in the trash myself.. only thing wrong, was it clogged up with that carpet fresh powder in the lower vacuum port.. Id never use that powder stuff with a HEPA type Vac.

  6. to would be buyer I suggest you purchase a vacuum with a bag. It’s a hassle to clean and it’s easier to break while cleaning. To me it feels like technology reached it’s zenith in the 80’s.

  7. @MrMoterKid My great grandma does that! She throws out an average of 5 perfectly good vacuums a year just because they get clogged!

Apparently she doesn’t know that you have to empty the filters! XD

  8. Check the video responses. I found a D.D. similar to this one. It works, but it is shooting sparks though….

  9. @SeberHusky if the motor is sparking its not worth risking your life to fix it. Its dangerous, and i would toss it

  10. @SeberHusky your machine requires a new motor. it’s not the easiest repair job in the world but it is possible to replace. also check the brushes they could be worn

  11. @craig1974 Serberhusky’s requires a new motor. that is replacable but it’s not easy. the result is worth it though

  12. @craig1974 i think my great uncle norm has one of these in his basement and he dont know or forgot about it
