With 3 cats I really needed a good vacuum and this Bissell really is a life saver. It has great suction and good maneuverability. It sucks up cat hair like nobody’s business!

My favorite things about this vacuum:

    * barely any assembly required, a real snap to get started, you just attach the handle and the hose
    * suction–it is way better than the canister vac I replaced
    * maneuverability–easy to turn
    * pet turbo eraser attachment–great for the furniture and the cat trees, very powerful if not a bit loud
    * removable canister for handling stairs or going out to get the car done or reaching up on tall cat trees
    * brush on/off switch to do hard surfaces
    * easy to dump bagless canister, just a push of a button to remove from the unit and another push to swing open the bottom of the canister right over the trash can.
    * washable pre-motor filters

    Some minor annoyances:

    * power button needs to really be pushed, it doesn’t like my half-hearted attempts to turn it on
    * slightly heavy if you spend a lot of time leaning it back to get under things
    * a little small on the width even though it is a “full-sized” vacuum, just a little wider would have been appreciated
    * power cord attaches at the bottom and just will not seem to stay in the clip up under the handle so I am constantly holding the cord up off the floor
    * the bagless vacuum curse– dust that looms up from the trash can after you dump it (it is washable, but I am lazy!)
    * 27 foot cord is a little shorter than what I am used to

A little bigger concerns (but not deal breakers!)

    * multiple trips to the trash can. I only have about a 1400 square foot space to vacuum and I run back to dump the canister at least a few times. The full line is only 3 inches up from the bottom of the canister. I just think I am burning more calories this way.
    * occasional clumping up of cat hair inside the canister which decreases the cyclonic flow. I have to tap the side sometimes to get the stuff moving in there.
    * I did not get an extension wand as listed on Amazon, and it is not listed on the box either

I have used it for a full month and I haven’t touched my old vacuum again. Pet lovers will be most pleased with this and I recommend it over a pricey Dyson. Overall, I am very happy with this vacuum!

    DECENT MID-LEVEL CYCLONIC VACUUM, July 25, 2013

    – As with all new appliances it takes a while to figure things out. The vacuum itself is sturdy, some of the plastic post attachments (for the vacuum tube to rest on) aren’t …so go gentle when sliding them on.

Once I managed to string things together I could obviously figure out how to vacuum a level floor … suction worked very good. It took me longer to figure out the “Lift Off” part. Basically I take it the main engine (or motor if you will) is mounted underneath the canister itself; and when the Lift Off canister is snapped back into the main frame unit it once again is a normal vacuum.

Maintenance wise it appears the pre-motor filter and canister you can wash and dry. The post motor filter (Allergen Media Filter) is a pleated non-washable type and it appears you would need to buy new ones over time (just like belts … which don’t last forever).

The main speciality with this vac is the Pet Turbobrush eraser which has rubber feelers on the brush – which grabs hold of pet hairs more easily. Now if you have The Abominable Snowman as a pet , I would think you would definitely need to manually clean out the super long Yeti hair every now and then that will/would wrap around the brushes. All you Chihuahua owners will have it easier.

Now please don’t quote me I have an early model of this vacuum – I believe it has 12 amps (all prior Bissell models similar to this one were 12 amps). I couldn’t find that out on the vacuum or the instruction guide … as noted this vacuum did pull up the dirt (and hair). Now I can tell you the approximate weight … hold on let me go get the bathroom scale …. 13 lbs for the whole assembled unit, 8 lbs when in the “Lift Off” mode.

So, overall you do get 2 vacuums in one, and provide all your filters are nice and clean and the dirt container is empty or fairly empty … “no loss of suction”. I’m too poor for a Dyson – so I can only imagine in my mind how this vac would compare to a $500 vacuum.

Like others, I’m very impressed by the Bissell PowerGlide.

    PROS:

    – Very attractive price point
    – Handles golden retriever and cat hair no problem
    – Sturdily built
    – Swivel head for easy maneuverability
    – LiftOff removable canister for vacuuming stairs
    – Lightweight, easy to vacuum with one hand

    CONS:

    – Some handle alignment issues during setup
    – Any other colors besides purple?
    – Hose is on the short side
    – Power cord management is messy

There are so many things to love about the full featured and well equipped Bissell PowerGlide. I love the swivel head and the LiftOff canister. Those two features are worth their weight in gold. Genius of Bissell to mount the suction system on the canister assembly! The Bissell is lightweight and easy enough to maneuver with a single arm. It handled golden retriever hair without difficulty.

The only cons I can think of are very minor. During assembly, the handle had difficulty aligning with the base. Power cord management was a bit messy, and the Bissell could benefit from a retractable cord system like what Hoover uses on many of its products. The hose seemed a bit short, although that is mitigated by the LiftOff technology. Lastly, another color besides purple would be nice.

    Highly recommended.
