GE R-1 Roll-Easy Vacuum Cleaners

A quick comparative overview of version 1 and version 3 General Electric Roll-Easy Vacuum Cleaners. A sleek & sexy high style Domestic Appliance from the late 1950s, the R-1 Roll-Easy features the motor, turbines and disposable paper dust bag contained within the horizontal barrel riding on two 12.5″ wheels and rubber tires. Wands, hose ends and body details are copper-plated aluminum. Convex bodied Version 1 is 14″ wide and concave versions 2 & 3 are 12″ wide, accounted for by the repositioning of the original hose intake socket/bag retainer from left to center, allowing the machine to track truer when pulled along by the hose. Version 3 also dispenses with the copperplate for brushed aluminum, although the narrower modifications of convex barreled Version 2 were still copperclad and came with the new GE ‘Double-Action’ carpet or bare floor nozzle, replacing the original’s flip-over tool.
