  1. I have read that the best way to clean them is to wash them with shampoo. That’s what I do. It doesn’t sterilize them but it gets them clean. If no one uses them but you it should be fine to just wash them.

  2. gently washing them in warm soapy water with a gentle soap and then letting them air dry should do the trick =]

  3. All you need is basic warm water and antibacterial soap. Hold brushes under warm/hot running water and make a good sudsy lather and then rinse well with cold water and air dry. Do not use alcohol, as it tends to dry the “hairs” out.

  4. Take a dime size amount of shampoo into the palm of your hand.. take your brush and run it under warm water to get the bristles wet, then take the brush and swirl it around the plam of your hand, rinse and repeat.. lay them on a clean towel and let them air dry 🙂

  5. Vinegar and Water: Use 2 parts water and 1 part vinegar, dip your brushes in the mixtures and rinse clean in warm water. This will disinfect your brushes so if multiple people use them, this is a great option over a brush cleaner.
For the following cleaning options I recommend putting the product into your hand, dipping the brush in a small amount of water and lathering the makeup brush thoroughly. Then rinse with warm water and lay flat on a towel to dry.

Shampoo: It doesn’t really matter what kind of shampoo you use but shampoo works great for cleaning your makeup brushes. Remember, makeup brushes are hair and shampoo works great on yours, right? When I have the time, this is the option I use.
Facial Cleanser: A gentle cleanser works well for cleaning your makeup brushes. If it will remove the makeup from your face, it will remove the makeup from your brush.

It depends on the brush of how often you should clean the brushes. Any brush you use on a liquid cosmetic should be cleaned everyday; such as, concealer, foundation, lip products and cream eye shadow. For other brushes I would recommend as often as once a week or at the least every two weeks.

  6. I soak mine in warm water with Dawn dish washing liquid for about 30 minutes. During the soaking, I gently swish the brushes around a few times. It cleans away all the makeup and any grease from your face just wonderfully! Then I gently rinse them under clean warm water, pat them dry in a thirsty bath towel, and let them air dry overnight, with the brush part hanging off the edge of the counter top.

The first time I cleaned my brushes (after about 6 months) I was amazed at how dirty they were and also how nicely they worked the next time I applied makeup with them. Now I clean them once every 6 weeks.

  7. i wash mine with baby shampoo, be sure to rinse them throughly. It always cleans them. Leave them overnight to dry. Don’t dry them with a hair dryer, it dammages the hair shaft.

  8. i had the same question not so long ago si i decided to ask a MAC Cosmetics Professional .

you can mix some water with baby shampoo and let the brushes sit in the shampoo and water for about 1O mins .
and it usualy makes the brushes softer than before ..

    try it !(:
