This is my 1984 Hoover Turbopower. This was the first of the Turbopower series and was launched in 1983 and was still in production as late as 1997. It was the replacement for the popular Junior model which continued to run alongside it until 1988 as a budget upright. It was powered by a 410watt dirty fan motor and was available as the Softbag Turbojunior and The Turbopower Autoflex. A slightly updated range arrived in 1985. The Turbopower took over from the Junior as being the uk’s best selling upright in the 1980’s.
yes, its main competitor was probably the Elecrolux 500/Twinturbo series. The Electrolux was a much more advanced than the Turbopower and had clean fan layout rather than being dirty fan which was quite rare in upright cleaners at the time. Other rivals included the Moulinex Major, Towards the end of the 80’s other uprights from Panasonic and Hitachi started also rivalled the turbopower. By the 1990’s the Turbopower, although still popular it was quite outdated
you could put this in a discription next time you make a video of this vacuum
do you have a vacuumland
no I used to be on hooverland but I dont get time for it anymore really, most of my mates that I used to spk to on there come round my place anyway now or I go to theirs
one question is there such a thing as the turbo power series
does this cleaner have a twospeed motor
No the early Turbopowers didnt have a 2 two speed motor, that didnt come until the second generation of Turbopowers from 1985 onwards
Yes there were loads of different models and colours of Turbopowers over the years
like the autoflex
I have a red Autoflex but its very fragile, it was nicknamed the glass turbopower because the red plastic had a habit of shattering very easily, and it gets worse with age. So they’re very rare because most of them got broken years ago. Occasionally you do see a blue Autoflex but theyre also really rare
Hey there again Vintage Hoover. My name is Keith and I am for sure a Vac’ collector. Do you know of anyone within the trader world that would know how to refurb a machine?
Would you mind sharing your e-mail address ?
I do refurbs myself depending on what vacuum it is and as long as your willing to cover the cost of parts and postage for the vac. I can provide invoices and receipts too for any parts I need to get. I’ll send you a message with my email
Hi there have you seen the ad for the new salom from Hoover if so is it any good?
hi yeh I used a new slalom last week and im very impressed, its a lovely little vac to use and seems to do a really good job and grooms the carpet just like the old ones used to. It is bloody heavy though and a little flimsy, but its miles better than anything else Hoover have brought out in the last 10 years. We’ll just have to wait and see if they’re as reliable as the old ones, I wouldn’t bet any money on it tho!
I am DYING to get my hands on a Turbopower 1 at the moment. I love the total system T1’s too. I used my friends U2602 the other week and loved it!
cheers, the wheels on mine used to squeek too so I packed them up with little bits of paper and 3in1 oil lol
hi, good vid! would you say these were any good?
yes very, however the only thing that lets them down is the filteration, they tend to blow loads of dust out unless you use really thick bags, I use Hoover Purepower high filteration cloth bags in mine and that helps a hell of a lot.
ok thanks…..theres acually one been thrown away by my church quess id better save it then lol!
is that a mini fridge on the side lol?
@12345hassanali yup lol
