Vintage Vax 121 dry vacuuming

The ledgendary Vax 121, almost as well recognised and popular as Henry. The Vax machine was first launched in 1979 and was the first 3in1 machine designed to be used in the home. In the 80’s and early 90’s it became one of the best selling vacuums in Britain and you can still find 1000’s of them still in everyday use. This was down to the 121’s reliabilty, durabilty and versatility. It’s quite happy being used as an everyday regular vacuum as it is washing carpets or cleaning up after big messy DIY jobs. Many of them also ended up being used in commercial environments like shops and offices. The basic design hasn’t really changed to this day and Vax have even stuck to the famous orange and black colour scheme on some models. Although its a great vacuum, I found that the 121 never felt as powerful, well made or as quiet as its closest rival the Hoover Aquamaster. The 121 was replaced in 1992 by the slightly more modern looking Vax 2000.

  1. I don’t actually own any Dysons anymore, I bought a new DC14 a few years back and I wasn’t happy with it all, but I do like the look of some of the latest ones.

  2. I remember when my mum brought one of these. All the neighbours came around for a demonstration and all wanted to borrow it to shampoo their carpets. lol I’ve just brought a Hoover Hurricane (2000W Pets Model, black and red). It was a toss up between that, a Vax Power or a Morphy Richards. I’ve hurt my arm and can’t handle my Henry very well so needed an upright. I’m impressed so far, very powerful and reasonably quiet although it throws out a lot of heat!

how deos the filter desing work? are they just a shopvac with a face or is he more than that

  5. well, here in england where Henry is from, we dont have shopvacs so i wudnt know. Henry is a commercial grade vacuum. Back in the early 80s Numatic found that their commercial vacuums were not only popular with commercial users, but domestic users too, so they put a face on their NV200 model called it Henry and the rest is history. Henrys are so popular because they have a reputation for bein ultra reliable, effective and easy to use.
